The topic of "The One" has come up in a few discussions I've had with people lately. You know, the perfect soulmate. "The One" God has chosen.
Anyways, I think there are different levels and scales of compatibility that could determine a good mate. There are also different common interests with different people. I do believe that God chooses people for us that He has designed for us. I'm not so sure if there is just "One", but I do think that God still leaves the decision up to us. Of course I've heard the stories where God makes it blatantly obvious who a person should marry.
I'm just not really sure about the whole topic. I really do want to hear your 2¢.
What are your views on the topic of having a Soulmate?
This is something I'm also really wrestling with, so I'm about as lost as you are...
I like the video though, it's pretty funny
I don't buy that whole 'soulmate' stuff. To me, claiming that you have a soulmate (and it was always 'meant to be') sounds like you're over-glorifying the semi-random process that led you to your current bf/gf.
Now, I will concede that sometimes there is divine intervention...
I've often heard this question posed, and not long ago, the Lord lead me to this verse:
"Let Your mercy and loving-kindness, O Lord, be upon us, in proportion to our waiting and hoping for You." ~Ps. 33:22 (italics mine)
I believe that the Lord's loving kindness and mercy will be upon us in proportion to the amount that we put our faith, our waiting and hoping, in His loving kindness. I believe that God can and will pick "the one" for you, and I believe He can do it best, He is the ultimate Matchmaker, the ultimate love story Writer! I am trusting Him to do this for me. I am almost 24, and I am waiting for God's best, allowing Him to be my Matchmaker, and I am saving my first kiss for the altar. I greatly hope and wait for His loving-kindness, and I know that I will not be disappointed (if the Lord wills me to get married)!
But, I believe that God is also a gentleman, and He will only step into our love lives as much as we invite Him in. So basically, I believe there are two choices set before us: either we can decide to pick a mate ourselves, and then ask God to bless our decision (wrong way!), OR, we can surrender this area completely to Him, knowing that He knows us even better than we know ourselves and that He will lead us to the perfect match for us (best way!).
Just couldn't pass up sharing this verse on the subject!
I think daughteroftheking85 said it perfectly!
@daughteroftheking85 - Beautifully said! Thank you so much for sharing this so eloquently.
@overly_toasted_bread - I'm not wrestling with it, I've just had some discussions with some people and figured I'd see what Xanga people thought. Tim Hawkins is a funny guy.
@Romans_837 - Interesting... I kind of agree with you. Also, I think the word soulmate is overused. Thanks for your thoughts.
@daughteroftheking85 - Thank you for sharing your thoughts. What you said makes a lot of sense.
After what daughteroftheking85 said, I've got nothing to add either. But when you do find that perfect girl and get married, please follow the guy in the videos advice. I'm still laughing about that! (mostly because it's true)
Irish_Russian's wife here!
I'm not sure how much I believe in the concept of soul mates, but I think that if you open yourself to possibility (or call it God's Will) then anything can happen. I met Irish when I was 32 (never married prior), we married when I was 34, and almost 3 years later, things are going pretty darn well, at least for me :) I think he'd agree. Just know this: it will happen when it's supposed to happen, and it may not look like what you think it's supposed to look like (and by that I mean the person, or the circumstance, or the progression or any combination thereof), but it will happen. Best of luck to you.
@Irish_Russian - The guy is hilarious. I'm hoping to get a DVD of his for my birthday.
@cliopatra - Well, it's a pleasure to meet you and thanks for your stopping by my site. I think I got a good thing going with my girlfriend of almost 5 years. I know God has a plan and I know He will let me know when the time is right.
